Size effect and scaling in quasi‐static and fatigue fracture of graphene polymer nanocomposites

This work investigated how the structure size affects quasi-static and fatigue behaviors of graphene polymer nanocomposites, a topic that has been often overlooked. The results showed both failure these materials scale nonlinearly with due to presence significant fracture process zone (FPZ) ahead crack tip induced by nanomodification. Such complicated effect scaling in either or scenario cannot be described linear elastic mechanics, but can well captured law (SEL) which considers FPZ. Thanks SEL, enhanced properties were properly characterized shown independent size. In addition, differences on morphological mechanical between also identified clarified this work. experimental data analytical analyses reported article are important deeply understand mechanics polymer-based nanocomposites even other quasi-brittle (e.g., fiber-reinforced polymers their hybrid nanoparticles, so forth), further advance development computational models capable capturing size-dependent under various loads.
